This house was built in 1888 by the founder of the Minami-Tatsuuma Family, Kijuro Tatsuuma, as his private residence. Its design is believed to have come from the then British Consulate in Kobe. It is also believed that this house is the first western style residence constructed and used by Japanese. It is designated as Important Cultural Property by Nishinomiya City and Hyogo Prefecture as well. It has not been open to the public since the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake.
